Michel Cahen, born in Strasbourg (France) in 1953, is a historian. He is a specialist in Portuguese colonization in Africa and a political analyst of the current Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP). But from this Lusophone “terrain”, he has expanded his research interest to broader conceptual themes, including the relationships between ethnicity and democracy, fascism and colonialism, Marxism and nationalism, subalternity and creolization, among others. Over the past two decades, he has critically engaged with postcolonial and decolonial approaches.
