Dr. George Rouamba worked for over 15 years at the Ministry of Health of Burkina Faso before joining Joseph Ki-Zerbo University in Ouagadougou in 2019, after defending his Ph.D. thesis in social and cultural anthropology at the University of Bordeaux, France. He also holds a Master's degree in Sociology from Joseph Ki-Zerbo University, a Master's degree in Educational Sciences from the University of Besançon, and a Master's in Innovations, Development, and Societies from the Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering (2IE). Promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor in Sociology and Health Anthropology in 2022, Dr. Rouamba is a member of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory in Social Sciences and Health at Joseph Ki-Zerbo University. He is also an affiliated researcher at the "Les Afriques dans le Monde" laboratory at the Institute of Political Studies of Bordeaux, France.

His research interests include themes such as: aging and old age in the Global South, social protection and health policies, gender-based violence (witchcraft), epidemics/pandemics, and health systems. Dr. Rouamba has participated in numerous international conferences on aging issues in the Global South. In this regard, he co-leads the Africa section of the International Network for Studies on Age, Citizenship, and Socio-economic Integration (https://reiactis.net), based in France. As a health sector activist, he was elected President of the Institutional Ethics Committee of the National Institute of Public Health (CEI-INSP) of the Ministry of Health of Burkina Faso (2021-2024) (http://www.insp.gov.bf/), on behalf of the Burkinabe Association of Public Health (ABSP).
