Chikouna Cissé was born on June 20, 1970 in Gagnoa. An Ivorian national, he is a lecturer in African history at the Université Félix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire). He holds a PhD in History on Migrations et mise en valeur de la Basse Côte d'Ivoire (1920-1960). His field of research also extends to the study of the Jula merchant diaspora in West Africa. In this context, Chikouna Cissé is a member of the international team responsible for editing volume IX of the General History of Africa on global Africanity. Cissé Chikouna was a fellow at the Institut d'études avancées (IEA) in Nantes from October 2012 to June 2013. Since 2021, he has been working for the UNHCR as an expert trainer on the Francophone course on statelessness and nationality. He is in charge of the Historical Migrations and the Formation of Identities in Africa from the 15th to the 20th century. Chikouna Cissé recently published a book on the history of CAMES.
