Charlene Komuntale is a mixed media artist based in Kampala, Uganda. Trained in animation, her practice evolved from digital painting into mixed media works that combine textiles, embroidery, and beadwork. Her work explores how beauty, identity, and value are shaped by cultural and historical forces, often centering the experiences of Black African women.
In 2023 she held her debut solo exhibition, Sit with Me – The Diary of a Free Thinker at Afriart Gallery. Her work has been presented internationally at fairs including EXPO Chicago, Art Basel Miami Beach, Abu Dhabi Art, and Investec Cape Town Art Fair. Komuntale has participated in residencies such as Silhouette Projects (2021) and The Mill in Adelaide, Australia (2023). She holds a BA in Animation from Limkokwing University, Malaysia.
