gnanviappolinaire@yahoo.frHolder of a Ph.D. in Development Sociology from the Multidisciplinary Graduate School "Spaces, Cultures, and Development" at the University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC), Appolinaire D. GNANVI is an Associate Professor at Universities/CAMES. As a Teaching-Researcher in the Department of Sociology-Anthropology, his research focuses on participation, a challenging issue in the conception, implementation, or evaluation of development plans, programs, and projects, as it is always present. He argues that it is necessary to go beyond artificial and ideological participation to consider the entire issue of endogeneity in local development. His analyses reveal political divisions that often influence the normal course of projects and activities aimed at the economic and social well-being of the population. His methodological approach combines spatial dynamics, urban planning, local governance, environment and climate change, and sociological realities. He relies on the principle of subsidiarity to address issues related to local expertise and citizen participation. He shows a particular interest in considering gender differences and inequalities that constitute constraints to economic development, growth, and poverty reduction.
