Professor Amadou Thierno Gaye is a distinguished full professor at Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD). He is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in prestigious international journals, addressing topics related to West African climate, regional climate modeling, climate change, and variability in the Sahelian region. His work also encompasses atmospheric processes, air pollution, and the impacts of climate on various socio-economic sectors, including water resources, agriculture, health, ocean-atmosphere interactions, and the analysis of climate and spatial data.

An eminent scholar in his field, Professor Gaye is a member of several international scientific networks and programs. His research focuses on climate change, the African monsoon, and the water cycle. He serves on the Joint Steering Committee of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) and numerous scientific advisory boards, such as WASCAL and CR4D. He is also a full member of Senegal's National Academy of Sciences and Techniques.

He contributed to the studies enabling Senegal to submit its first National Communication to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1998 and has since been involved in all subsequent submissions. As Scientific Director of the Simeon Fongang Laboratory for Atmospheric and Ocean Physics (LPAO), he also served as a lead author for the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was co-awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. Additionally, he is co-director of the International Mixed Laboratory ÉCLAIRS.

From 2015 to 2017, Professor Gaye led the École Supérieure Polytechnique (ESP) of Dakar, an engineering school affiliated with UCAD, and the doctoral school "Water Quality and Uses" at UCAD. He also served as the Director-General of Research and Innovation in Senegal (DGRI) from 2016 to 2020, during which he launched the Senegalese space program, culminating in the satellite project SenSAT.

In recognition of his outstanding career, Professor Amadou Thierno Gaye was named Knight of the International Order of Academic Palms by CAMES during its 37th and 38th Ordinary Ministerial Council sessions held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, from May 31 to June 4, 2021.
