A virtuous circle of knowledge and capacity building

A project structured around a journal requires the establishment of a community of practices and expertise on the themes promoted by the journal. This allows for the creation of a virtuous circle: training → knowledge production → knowledge publication → increase in the researcher’s audience → strengthening of their training capacities.

01 — Presentation

The Offer

The primary target audience for the scientific writing courses are junior students and researchers. This choice was motivated by a significant observation: the decline in the quality of scientific writing and the shortcomings in addressing methodological and fieldwork aspects in social sciences education on the continent.

However, the act of writing is a fundamental element in the expression of scientific thought. It reflects the understanding of certain phenomena, concepts, or notions and demonstrates the ability to address them.

That’s why the following MOOCs have been targeted:
01
Scientific Writing Course
02
Epistemology Course
03
Method and Fieldwork Investigation Course
04
Theories in Social Sciences Course
05

Quantitative and Qualitative Methods

The second part of the training focuses on publishing and mainly concerns professionals in scientific publishing. The crisis in higher education in Africa has left universities without the means for substantial research and also without viable publishing methods or the ability to produce, promote, and disseminate the results of researchers at the continental and international levels.
To support this necessary revitalization of African scientific publishing, Global Africa aims to offer a Professional Master’s program in Publishing Studies and Editing, providing training in:
Scientific Publishing Professions
Digital Publishing and Open Access
Intellectual Property Rights and Ethics in Production
Editing, Production, Referencing, and Graphic Design
MOOCs & Certificates
Online courses in Social Sciences & Scientific Publishing

Accessible to all — strengthen your scientific skills from anywhere on the continent.

02 — Challenges

Challenges

In an increasingly interconnected world, online courses are emerging as a valuable means of making knowledge accessible to all. Organizing such courses in Africa holds particular importance.

01
Strengthening local expertise
Organizing courses in Africa strengthens local expertise in the specific fields of scientific publishing and social sciences. By addressing Africa’s specific needs, they contribute to the training of highly qualified personnel capable of playing an active role in the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge.
02
Promoting African research
An essential aspect of these courses is the promotion of African research. By encouraging African researchers to publish their work in internationally renowned scientific journals, these initiatives contribute to increasing the visibility and recognition of African research on the global stage. However, it is important to note that access to international publishing platforms and research resources remains a matter to be considered, given the disparities in access to infrastructure and funding.
03
International collaboration
The dimension of international collaboration is also crucial. Online courses facilitate exchanges and partnerships between African researchers and those from other regions of the world. This fosters knowledge exchange, intellectual debates, and joint research projects, while paving the way for broader transnational academic cooperation — based on principles of equity, fair resource sharing, and respect for local knowledge.
04
Diversity of knowledge
Online courses contribute to highlighting the diversity of knowledge in Africa. By recognizing and preserving traditional knowledge and perspectives specific to the continent, they enrich the landscape of scientific research and social sciences. However, it is crucial to ensure that cultural biases are avoided, and to promote a respectful and balanced approach that values African knowledge without essentializing or reducing it to stereotypes.
05
Equitable and respectful participation
The organization of online courses dedicated to scientific publishing and social sciences in Africa presents considerable advantages and complex challenges. This initiative can contribute to access to knowledge, the strengthening of local expertise, the promotion of African research, international collaboration, and the appreciation of diversified knowledge. However, they require a nuanced approach that takes into account the specific challenges facing the continent and promotes equitable and respectful participation.

Trainings in Social Sciences
Global Africa's online courses dedicated to theories and methods in social sciences offer a valuable opportunity for African students, researchers, and professionals to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of social sciences. By organizing these courses in Africa, we aim to bridge the existing gap in access to education and training in these crucial disciplines.
One of the main advantages of these online courses is to provide equitable access to the latest theories and methods in social sciences. Participants will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of subjects, such as sociology, anthropology, psychology, economics, politics, and many more.
Furthermore, these online courses promote the development of analytical and critical skills. Participants will learn to critically evaluate different theories and methods, apply conceptual frameworks in their research, and analyze the social, cultural, and political issues underlying the studied topics.
By organizing these courses in Africa, we also highlight local perspectives and knowledge. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the specificities of African contexts and integrate approaches and knowledge specific to their own social, cultural, and political realities.
These online courses also facilitate the creation of networks and collaborations within the African community of social sciences. Participants will be able to interact with researchers and experts from the continent, exchange ideas, share experiences, and establish research partnerships.
Global Africa's online courses offer opportunities for skills development, access to cutting-edge knowledge, valorization of local perspectives, and strengthening of professional networks. These initiatives contribute to the flourishing of social sciences in Africa, by training a new generation of competent and engaged researchers and professionals.
